Mercy, Mercy Me was born during a time of repentance and recovery. I wrote the song during a season of attending 12-step and taking that scary step of faith when you don't feel ready or worthy.
Nothing pretentious. Just a humbled heart set to the blues, which again is a nod to the culture of the experience. At my church in Venice Beach, California this was a very popular song.
Mercy, mercy me
My soul has grown weary and my eyes won't look up
So I say,
Mercy, mercy me
When the burden gets too heavy
I call on the name of the Lord
Abba, Father you know all my needs
Holy Spirit, I need a deeper peace
Oh Lord, you must be strong, be very strong
When I am very weak
(Oh heaven have mercy,
Lordy, lordy, lordy have mercy)
Mercy, mercy me
All these needs to believe for but I'm low on my faith
So I say,
Mercy, mercy me
There's only one name left to live for
So I fall on the grace of the Lord
Abba, Father you know all my needs
Holy Spirit, I need a deeper peace
Oh Lord, you must be strong, be very strong
When I am very weak
(Oh heaven have mercy,
Lordy, lordy have mercy)
Abba, Father you know all my needs
Holy Spirit, I need a deeper peace
Oh Lord, you must be strong, be very strong
When I am very weak
(Oh heaven have mercy,
Lordy, lordy have mercy)
