about

Search Me was written in 1974 after being rebuked in church for re-writing the song of a friend and presenting it without permission. I lost a friend. I learned a LIFE long spiritual lesson.

The most important lesson any pastor or worship leader can teach their congregation is how to leave your gift at the altar.

Worship has become a pop play list for too many churches, and worship leaders see themselves with too much self importance. I wonder what the Lord would say to those trying too hard to impress and not hard enough to obey in humility.

Search Me is about laying your gift at the altar in truth and in action in obedience. The song is incomplete (only two verses). This is in obedience to the Lord; a spiritual lesson never to add to the word of the Lord in spiritual song.

This song has defined my personal worship for over 40 years and still feels fresh today. I suppose the truth is that the prayer is still valid for me today.

Search Me
Written by Nancy Lupo and Guy Morris © 2015

Search me oh God and know my heart
Try me Lord, and know all of my thoughts
See where there be
any unholy way in me
And lead me into your way
Everlasting, Everlasting

Touch me oh God and heal the shattered heart
Fill me Lord and for all my days to come
Let Your Spirit be
a well of life in me
An oasis of Your graces
Everlasting, Everlasting

See where there be any unholy way in me
And lead me into your way
Everlasting, Everlasting

Touch me oh God and heal the shattered heart
Fill me Lord and for all my days to come
Let Your Spirit be
a well of life in me
An oasis of Your graces
Everlasting, Everlasting

Let Your Spirit be
a well of life in me
An oasis of Your graces
Everlasting, Everlasting

And let Your Spirit be
a well of life in me
An oasis of Your graces
Everlasting, Everlasting
